I always hear people talking about ''Photoshop''...what is it? Where can i download it? Is it already on my computer? I have Windows XP. I'd like to make some cool pictures, where do i start? I have adobe photoshop, but in my opinion most adobe products are crap, and mine won't open.

well i have adobe photoshop 7 and the only way i know how to do it is to make all your layers that you want and then import that photoshop project into image ready, which should come with photoshop....there should be a button below the tool bar....like a link or you could click ctrl+shift+m on pc. Once you're in adobe image ready, you can go to the ''window'' tab, then go to ''Animation'' and you'll see the animation window at the bottom. hope this helps. P.S (in imageready, your frames show exactly what you have on the screen...if you put a layer to be hidden....it will be hidden in whatever fram you are in) you might want to check out some online tutorials...hope this isn't confusing...if it is just email me miqtmail@gmail.com

New hard drive --- why not set it up as a second drive in the computer. Easy to do, if unsure, google installing second hard drive and you will find instructions on how to do it. Then move all your data files from the currently C: drive to the new drive. This will free space on the C: drive and give you a brand new disk for storing all your work which you will not want to lose. This also makes backup of data easier as everything is on one drive. Leave all your applications on the C: drive. No programs to reinstall (change the drive and you will have to install EVERYTHING, Windows and all updates, other programs --- probably about 2 -3 days of work.

You could also then set the second drive as the location for the Windows swap file and the PS scratch file.

If it is a small file then you might be able to copy it to a flash drive(make sure you write down the key code if there is one) then install your new hard drive then but the flash drive back in. You might have to reinstal it but thats better then losing it. =)
You have to disable the license number you have and then install it on the other computer using the same license number. I think you can find directions on adobes website.
Photoshop is a different program to adobe and will automatically go into adobe under a seperate file the sad thing is you might have to reinstal photoshop
If you have the installation CD/App and a valid registration key, it should be fine.

Why isn't Photoshop letting me save PNG!?!?!?!?!?

For such an expensive program, Photoshop CS2 has been nothing but PROBLEMS!

NOW it won't let me save as a PNG... I'm trying to have a transparent background, and of course, Photoshop doesn't want me to do that, I guess.

My only options it lets me choose are JPG, and PSD and other Photoshop options. No PNG OR GIF!

Normally, I won't use File %26gt; Save As%26gt; *.jpeg (except for *.psd format). I always use File %26gt; Save For Web%26gt; then I choose what type of format i need (GIF, PNG org JPEG). That's it.

Try Gimp, it is free and has all the power of photoshop and even operates very similar to it. you can do a search in your favorite search engine to find it.
The best free Photoshop replacement is called GIMP. It's available for Windows, and the two files you'll need are in the links below. There are different types of photos. Each has a different file extension. I suggest you do a search of your C: drive and look for *.jpg or *.gif. If any are found then remember what directory they are in. While in Photoshop click on File %26gt; Open and find the directory the search found. Then click on one or more of the photos and click Open.

You should be able to just drag photos onto the editor. If that's not working for you you should try cutting and pasting. If you're using the trial version don't expect any amazing results. Trials are cheap.

As is true of many procedures in Photoshop, there are several ways of doing selective color. This is a quick and easy method.

First open your photo in PS of course.

Then go to Layer - Duplicate Layer

Click OK

Then go to Image - Adjustments - Hue / Saturation

Drag the Saturation slider all the way to the left to make the photo black and white.

Click OK

Then get the ERASER tool from the tool box on the left side of the screen. It is usually the next tool under the clone stamp tool. Just hover your mouse over the tool, and it will say Eraser.

When you have selected the Eraser, go up to the Brush options box at the top of the screen, and click on the downfacing arrow. Set the Hardness of the brush to 100% so you will have accurate control of selection. You may also need to raise or lower the brush size to suit.

Erase away any black and white from where you want the color to be revealed.

When done go to

Layer - Flatten Image

Then just do a Save As to wherever you want to save the photo.

sorry you can't - photoshop temp files can be gigabytes in size so it's not really practical to keep them around when the program closes.

An autosave function isn't really practical either as the files can be so large as to cause quite a problem when autosaving, just got to keep your finger on the old ''command s'' trigger

Open your Tools window (Windows %26gt; Tools).

The second icon down on the right should be the 'magic wand'. Paint Bucket is under Gradient - you need to click and hold down the icon to see all the tools (sixth down on the right), Line/Curve is under Rectangle Tool (ninth down on the right), Move Selection is the Hand tool, bottom left.

Check to see if photoshop has monitor calibration tools. This will create a new color profile which should allow you to view consistant colors and hues/saturations throughout windows. The calibration instructions should be in the help file of photoshop.

Another GIMP vote - I also have Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro 8 - LOVE Photoshop, but GIMP is free. GIMP is a little tough at first, as Photoshop is, but there's alot of tutorials and it has some nice extras that Photoshop doesn't - e.g. love their gradients...

All of the programs mentioned above are free, but they're not very good and probably won't do everything your looking for. I reccomend Paint Shop Pro XI, it can do everything Photoshop can do but its 7 times cheaper. Yeap, 100$. But you can always get the free trial first to make sure its up to your standards. I personally love it. I make layouts and have my own domain, but I'm not sure if thats what you're looking for. It edits photos also!

There are many programs, many of them free that can recover anything that you put in a hard disk unless you saved something in the former place. But nobody guarantees it will be succesful.

If you did a backup what did you use? A CD or a DVD? If you don`t find your pictures is because the back up failed in the first place.

Photoshop can't edit audio. There are a couple programs out there to try to fix the audio but it still won't do much and it will be barely noticeable. You're basically stuck with the quality you have now.

Your computer probably doesn't meet the requirements to run CS3. That's the most common issue. Usually it's that you don't have enough RAM installed. Do you know what your computer configuration is? How much RAM? what processor? What version of the operating system?

I really do think that American culture is based to much on looks. Whenever I edit a picture using Photoshop I can't view the edited photo through any other program such as Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I don think this is a problem, what file type u save ur edited files if it is .psd then it is photoshop's native format which picture viewer ond other programs don understand... U can't open ,psd files with these programs all u hav to do is just save the file as some other common format preferably '.jpg' and view this .jpg file in picture viewer to do this

and select a different format preferably '.jpg' tats it now try opening this .jpg file it'll get opened in picture viewer itself..

Unzip it with a program such as 7-zip ( http://7-zip.org/ ) and then deal with the contents of it. Photoshop can't do anything while the data is still in the zip archive.

Photoshop can be purchased as a stand alone application. I don't know who you are paying each month, but you might be better off buying the application.

Depending on what you are using it for, Photoshop is a very powerful program.

You can use it on any digital picture you have, from any camera. Use it to highlight pictures, make the subject of a picture stand out sharper - while making the background blurry etc. You can use it for changing the colors of your pictures - even making them black %26 white or Sepia.

But you need to learn to use it. Just like anything else, the more you practice the better you get.

If I were you, I'd buy the program, learn to use it and make it very useful.

liquify is one way, or you can use the smudge tool and get the same effect. it just takes a steady hand.. zoom in to like 300% and press the mouse drag a bit and let go, keep repeating.

or you can use the clone stamp tool. take a selection by holding down alt a little ways out in the background and draw next to the edge of the face.

An easy way to change the look and weight of any part on a person is to use the Liquefy tool. It is always the best bet, although it is usually slow in rendering. Adjusting shadows on the face, such as burning or dodging, can also give the appearance of a thinner facial structure. This is due in part to that we see depth and height as shadows and highlights. After using the liquefy tool, i would then select the face using a quick mask, and adjust the shadows/highlights (using the tool of the same name) to help lighten the features without making the skin too white. This can happen if it is a work computer and the Administrator of the network did not give you enough permissions to install the software. Else, it might be that your own personal computer account is not set up as administrator. Basically, if you click on start, log off, and then in the section where you select your username, press ctrl+alt+del twice. A login box should come up. Type Administrator for the username and blank for password (this is assuming noone ever set up a password for the administrator account). Then find your installation file and install Photoshop CS3.

Hmmm I used Photoshop 7.0 before with absolutley no problems on my Windows Vista. One time I got a virus so I reformatted my hard drive to it's original factory settings. Then I installed my package agian (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, fireworks, dreamweaver, flash and acrobat. If unistalling is not working try reformatting your hdd (if you have the cd to do it) then come back and install Adobe. After that I bought an antivirus software and everything worked out fine. Or upgrade to Photoshop extended version they fixed many bugs in the newer version. If you don't want to format your drive maybe an alternative would be to call adobe hotline for help.

you have to match the two with a tool. The color management tools cost around $300. Go to fry's electronics and tell them your situation. That is the cheapest most professional route to go. Also you should do this every two weeks. Once you buy the kit you can do it as much as you want and last but not least turn your printer on and off once a day so that it cleans itself and will maintain itself.

Photoshop would be your best bet because it has abilities to set perspective, vanishing point and so on that the others recommended don't. This allows you to take, for example, a design you want to superimpose on the side of a building, but it's the side that doesn't face you (so it is not flat). You will be able to distort/shape the design to fit the perspective of the building's side.

As for decorations, designs, signs, etc. You can make them yourself, you can use various brushes to build designs from, you can create patterns, you can add textures, etc. There are a bunch of things that come with Photoshop, there are also lots of add-on packages you can buy, and there are lots and lots of cool free brushes, patterns, textures etc. you can download from various sites on the Internet.

Photoshop does have a learning curve, but you can also (1) get a number of excellent books on it [some of which are geared towards learning a specific thing. (2) find lots of excellent tutorials on the internet, many of them are free. These include video tutorials (often in the form of video podcasts).

Yes they are both compatible. You should have no problem opening it on a mac, if the file name does not say .psd at the end, the mac may have trouble recognizing this, but you can always add it to the file name. Or try right-clicking on the file and choosing the ''open with'' menu; Then choose to open it with Photoshop cs (you can also drag the file onto the phtoshop logo on the menu bar). But again, you should have no problem going back and forth with your pc and mac photoshop files.

I used to work with ps elements 2, but it doesn't work with leopard so I'm thinking about getting this. I use photoshop for color correction, exposure editing (like work with the histogram) sharpening, and cloning mostly, but I'll also use other tools. Photoshop Elements 4 is great---there are more recent versions of Photoshop elements, though; PS 4 is a few years old. You can do pretty much anything with PS 4; I certainly recommend it, but, like I said, there are more recent versions of Photoshop Elements out there.

As far as the editing interface, I haven't an earlier version to compare it to, although I can tell you that it is one main screen, with tools on the left and effects on the right. There is also a main panel at the top with all of the options in condensed form.

Photoshop is the best, and they have a lite version for much cheaper, can't remember exactly what it's called. Possibly Photoshop Elements?
I am not, in any way recommending illicit downloading of software, but I would point out that it is possible to get Photoshop through Torrent sites for people that are so inclined to do so.

I agree with the JASC Paintshop pro recommendations. It's cheap, effective and, I think, more flexible than Abobe Photoshop (but then I don't like Adobe software at all). Also, it doesn't use up half you PC's memory when it loads, like Photoshop does.

open a pic in photoshop, go to image, adjust color and make it whatever color you want -or use any other color options under the image category-play around its cool what you can do!. when done save as. open the same original pic and do the same thing but change it to a different color. When you have done all four. open them all along with a 8.5x11 page. select them one at a time with the marquee tool and copy and paste them onto the new page in the pop art format. You can do almost anything you want with Photoshop. I don't know anything about Gimp. If you are trying to turn a colored pic into b%26w. Simply go to Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Channel Mixer(click on monocromatic) or Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Hue/Saturation and just turn the saturation down or open your Channels window and copy paste the Red,Green, and Blue channels into new corresponding layers.

To replace the color to red or blue you could go to Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Replace Color. Then you just click on the color you want to change and pic a new one. It will replace it for you. You could use the color replacement tool under the brushes. You just paint over the old color with a new color of your choice. Also depending on what you want you could go to Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Gradient Map. If you want to tint the color of the whole image at once Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Photo Filter. Also to get more control you could Image%26gt;Adjustments%26gt;Variations.

If you can put it in laymen's terms. :) It came with a photoshop 7 package. I tried downloading brushes in ZIP files and when I click them it automatically takes me to imageready where it does not accept the file type, I try to open it with PS7 and it's not the right file type-so how in the world do I convert it do a different file type. This is very difficult. Try the pencil tool and draw with it. Using a mouse to get a smooth curve is also difficult. Much easier if you have a tablet. Unfornuately, there is no way to smooth the curve once drawn.

If this is a one time thing, download the 15-day free trial of Xara Xtreme, www.xara.com, and use it. It is a vector program and has smoothing.

You didn't say what file format your animation is in... If you used Image Ready, you can try exporting your animation as an animated gif. It will be saved with a .gif extension, but may not display the entire animation when you upload it.

To my knowledge, Photoshop does not create animations.

I'll just say this. If you don't have the disc that initially installs photoshop onto a computer, then you deffinitely can't. And also, you probably would need a security code from the box you bought it from. So it's a slim to none chance. If you had the disc then maybe.

Oh, and replying to the person above me. That's not completely true. On some programs the serial number can be used more than once on a different computer. I've done it plenty of times.

Even if you had the CD that it was installed from, you only have 1 serial number and can therefore only install it on one computer.

You need to buy a second copy of your laptop.

You should also consider whether the copy on your family's laptop is legal or not.

Photoshop is raster based, while Illustrator is vector based.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you have to ''stroke path'' first.

With the pen tool selected, go to ''Windows'' and click options if the options box isn't checked already. In the options panel, three buttons from the far left, you should see a pen tip surronded by a box. When you mouse over it, it should say ''paths.'' That's what you're looking for, I hope. If my directions doesn't make sense, just let me know and I'll try and rephrase it, because it's kinda confusing me...

are you on the correct layer? if you have multiple layers and you're not on the correct one most of the tools won't work. very common mistake.
Because strokes only work on images, not on paths or the selections you make out of a path.

If you are using Photoshop CS1 or newer, I suggest you use the stroke blending effect from the layers window, just right click a layer and choose Blending Effects and pick stroke and customize. Unlike the classic stroke, this one isn't permenate and can be edited in the future.

As far as your problem, perhaps you need to make your selection from your path by going to the paths window, right click and choose ''Make Selection''. Then go to Selection %26gt; Modify %26gt; Border and choose a value and fill it.

Photoshop 6 is pretty old, it may be hard to find the brushes for it. You can try download.com or adobe.com or ask.com, just type in photoshop 6 brushes.

It depends on what sort of outline you opt for, but one way is :

1) cut out the part that needs the outline (using the selection tools)

2) paste this (it creates a new layer)

3) select the layer and click the small effects button (circle with a ''f'' at the bottom of the layer pallette) and choose ''outer glow''

4) adjust the settings until you get the desired effect.

Inner glow might work too. Other than that, it's possible to use the pen tool to draw the outline and fill the outline with a colour. More complicated and time-consuming, though, so I would try using the layer effects first.

Another way is copying the object to a new layer below the original object, select that layer' content (%26lt;CTRL%26gt;-click on the layer) and choose Select, Modify, Expand. Expand the selection (trial %26 error, because it depends on the resolution you're working in) and fill the whole selection with a different colour. This creates an outline as well.

For Black %26 White effect, following menu option should help,

Image-%26gt;Mode-%26gt;Greyscale...

For cutting a picture %26 putting it onto other, Use Pen Tool from tool box, cut the picture, Drag it using, Drag Tool, onto other picture.

To form a film strip, create a New image with required width %26 height, then start dragging the pictures which want to add as film strip into that new image.

Hope these are of use...and hopefully u'll come across lot many online tutorials as Photoshop is widely used for photo mixing %26 designing.

you can also work your file half the size your working it (50%) but save it with double resolution, that way when you want to open it again, you double it size (to the original one), but with a good resolution.. :)

Photoshop files are very memory hungry -You can collapse the file - It takes up a lot more memory when you have lots of layers open.

Do merge visible. Go through all your files and make some more space this way . Delete any you dont need and defrag your computer.
The first responder has, probably describe your situation, exactly. The more layers your image has, the larger the file size. In fact, each layer multiplies the original file size. If your background layer is 20 meg, a new layer will add another 20 megs. A third will and an addtional 20 megs, and so on.

if your image is 72dpi 100 x 100, go to image %26gt;%26gt; image size %26gt;%26gt; put 300 dpi....or more...and improve using filters, color balance...youi can麓t imagine what is possible using photoshop.

ya u can do it... jus press Alt+i+i... ull get the image size change the resolution.. u have told that u were doing that before now ur not able to do it... in photoshop 7... even faced the same problem in levels... and curve option... the plugin was damaged... so i reinstalled the photoshop... i think its plugin problem.. the problem arises if u work on 500 mb file at once in photoshop... the plugin gets corrupted... so try to reinstall photoshop

It almost looks like it was hand-drawn.

You can use an existing font that's kinda close, and make the text ''rendered'' and then just paint %26/or erase. Fill, pink, stroke black add some dots %26 scribbles and you're good to go.

OR - handdraw what you'd like, and then scan it and fill it as shown in the pic.

Well this is my favourite one. You're not as much in profile, but you are looking at the camera, which is better.

Got rid of the light overhead, made the skin glow, but lost the flash glare, smoothed the nose and the jaw line, brightened the eyes but enlarged and darkened the pupils, darkened the lips but added a bit more refinement to the upper lip.

But it is the case of less is more. I like to keep it looking real and not plasticy.

that all depends on where you got it from. there are a lot of cracked versions floating around on the internet that all work well.

but it is also highly likely that if you found it on accident or from a site with a lot of adds or links to other similar programs that it could be shady. i would scan it with avg antivirus or something first before you extract it (assuming its in some type of zip/rar format)

To be viewed by all browsers, a graphic has to be in either the .jpg or .gif format. Almost any graphics program can save in this format.

I would have to say that you are better off going with Photoshop. Firstly because the student version is much less than the retail version, and it's worth buying it while you can get that discount.

Secondly, Elements is about %20 the program of full blown Photoshop. It has %20 the options, abilities, and if that is all you learn on, you will be stuck with %20 of the skills.

You need to take advantage of being is school to learn as much as you can about the FULL version of Photoshop, if you ever plan on putting it on your resume. Mostly because it is a program that is re-released about once every one and a half to two years, and if you aren't familiar with the program as a whole, learning the new items can be much harder. And jobs will expect you to be able to keep up with all of the new abilities.
